Do we then deny a license to heterosexual couples who choose not to have children?... To those who can’t have children or those who adopt?... CONCORD, N.H. -- Rick Santorum drew a hostile response at a town hall meeting here after he compared same-sex marriage to polygamy.

A college-age audience member at a town hall meeting in Concord asked Santorum "how you justify your belief based on these morals you have about all men being created equal when two men who want to marry the person that they love --"

Santorum cut her off and said "What about three men?"

"It's important that if we're going to have a discussion based on rational thought, that we employ reason. Reason says that if you think it's ok for two, you have to differentiate with me why it's not OK for three. Let's just have a discussion about what that means. If she reflects the values that marriage can be for anybody or any group of people, as many as is necessary, any two people or any three or four, marriage really means whatever you want it to mean."

At this point the crowd applauded -- apparently cheering the idea that "marriage really means whatever you want it to mean.

Santorum continued: "Here's my point of view. And we're done talking about this issue, we're going to move on to something else."

He went on to laud the traditional marriage, saying that "I think that’s something society should value and give status over a group of people who want to have a relationship together."

Some in the crowd booed him after that statement.

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Chris Gregoire said Wednesday she wants Washington to become the seventh state in the nation to make gay marriage legal.

She said at a news conference she'll introduce legislation that, if passed, would allow same-sex marriage in Washington state. The Democrat had previously supported efforts to expand domestic partner rights for gay couples, but had not previously come out in favor of full marriage rights.

"It's time, it's the right thing to do, and I will introduce a bill to do it," Gregoire said. "I say that as a wife, a mother, a student of the law, and above all as a Washingtonian with a lifelong commitment to equality and freedom. Some say domestic partnerships are the same as marriage. That's a version of the discriminatory 'separate but equal' argument."

In November, a coalition called Washington United for Marriage announced it would lobby the Legislature to approve a gay marriage bill this year. In 2009 the Legislature passed, and voters later upheld, a bill that greatly expanded the rights of same-sex domestic partners. That measure was known as the "everything but marriage" bill. Nearly 19,000 people in Washington state are registered as domestic partners.

Lawmakers return to the Capitol on Monday for the start of a 60-day legislative session.

Democratic Sen. Ed Murray of Seattle, a gay lawmaker who has spearheaded past gay rights and domestic partnership laws in the state, said the underlying domestic partnership law has helped lay the groundwork for full marriage.

Same-sex marriage is legal in Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont, as well as the District of Columbia.

Matt Katz and his husband Aaron were married on July 24th at Borough Hall in Brooklyn. They have no idea why they received the card.

Matt says, "I'm not sure why the letter got sent to us. Aaron and I were married on July 24th at Borough Hall. However, we had our wedding ceremony on July 23rd at my dad's house the day before. Maybe word got out that we were outlaws for a day?"

Senator Grassley on his opposition to same-sex marriage:

“Traditional marriage between a man and a woman has been the foundation of our society for 6,000 years,” said Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Judiciary panel. “The Defense of Marriage Act protects this sacred institution, which I believe in, and attempts to dismantle this law are likely to be met with a great deal of resistance.”

"I just believe you misstated the history of marriage. Marriage has not existed as a union between one man and one woman for thousands of years in every culture. In many cultures, men have been able to marry many women and young girls. For centuries, women have been treated as chattel in marriage. Further, if the religious purpose for marriage is procreation, why would we sanction marriage between an 80 year-old widower and an 80 year-old widow? I just think we need to be accurate when we talk about the history of marriage, the history of man and woman, the history of our institutions."

In an interview with the Washington Post's Sally Quinn, Osteen said, "Somebody that maybe had this certain difficulty now, maybe in five years they’re not if we will love them. You know, I think one of the messages I speak on sometimes is, you know, we can love people back into wholeness. But sometimes we want to beat them down — you got this addiction and you shouldn’t have that, or you did this — I just don’t think that’s the best way."
