Foursquaropoly. All the fun of paying bills on a business with none of the real life profits. It only surprises me this game took so long to become reality. Read More ›

It's as easy as pee! A clever explanation for how we use the various social networks we're addicted to surged on Reddit today in the form of this old image, made from an even older tweet. I decided to expand on the topic by updating the original and making a bit pretty, too. Add your own suggestions in the comments! Read More ›

A lot of valuable information can be gleaned from location-based service Foursquare. Foursquare's engineers have compiled this list of the cities with the highest percentage of tips containing curse words. So is it rude to say your service was fucking incredible?! View Image ›

A primer on social networking sites for those who don't know a Yelp from a FriendFeed.
Foursquare is “growing like a weed,” co-founder Dennis Crowley tells us. So fast, in fact, that they’ve had to expand their office space. Foursquare will soon take over the upstairs floor of the office they’re currently reside at in New York City. That’s great — Foursquare undoubtedly needs more room as they’re now over 20 employees. The question I have is, how on Earth are they paying for it?

Location-based gaming startup SCVNGR is continuing to flesh out its Foursquare competitor. Today, the service is launching online profile pages, giving users the ability to showcase all of the challenges they’ve completed, as well as the associated photos and tips to other players. It’s hardly a huge feature, but it’s one that the service has been sorely lacking (and was, unsurprisingly, the most requested feature after launch).
How can Foursquare get more people to check into places as they go about town? One way is stickers. Next month you will start to see stickers in storefront windows reminding Foursquare users to check in and unlock specials.
We’ve all heard about mayor deals with Foursquare. That is, a person who is the “mayor ” of a venue (essentially, has checked-in there the most number of times) gets access to special deals, such free items or discounts. Gowalla goes about its deals a bit differently. Because there are no “mayors” in Gowalla, instead, they’re focusing on giving everyone an equal opportunity to earn special deals.
Looks like Foursquare is experiencing the questionable honor of getting the attention of the Chinese government. Authorities appear to have blocked the service, at least in mainland China, according to many a tweet from Chinese location sharers.
Part of Foursquare's appeal is the mystery, the sense of flying blind when you're trying to earn a badge or mayorship. No one really knows how many times you must check into a location to become mayor. Well, wonder no more, Foursquare users. WhenWillIBeMayor.com has come to the rescue.
A company called Nerd Merit Badges have started producing real life Foursquare Badges to add to your nerd sashes. I'll have to order one to show off my mayor-ship of BuzzFeed. View Image ›
