Eric Garner died last month after he was put into an illegal chokehold by New York City police officer Daniel Pantaleo.
Eleven lives that were cut short for no good reason.
The film director has publicly criticized NYPD’s use of excessive force that led to Eric Garner’s death in July.
Ramsey Orta, 22, was arrested Sunday night for gun-related charges, the New York Police Department said.
Eric Garner’s death following an altercation with New York City police officers was due to the excessive force by officers, according to the New York City Medical Examiner.
“You deserved so much more from our City.”
Every police officer in New York City will receive retraining after a man died last week while cops tried to arrest him. The officers have been suspended with pay.
An internal NYPD report on the death of Staten Island resident Eric Garner quotes an officer at the scene as saying the man was “not in great distress.” Chokeholds, which are forbidden under NYPD procedures, were not mentioned in the document.
An amateur video of the man’s death appears to show how the first responders neglected to perform routine procedures to help the dying patient. The four emergency workers will not be going on ambulance runs until the FDNY completes an investigation.
Update: Officer Daniel Pantaleo will be stripped of his badge and gun during an investigation into a video that apparently shows him putting a man into a chokehold. In the video, the man is then slammed into the ground until he stops moving or talking.
