The vote to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was the result of a behind-the-scenes effort in which gay activists of all stripes banded together.
Finally, the end to a decades-long discriminatory policy.
Just when a step was taken in a positive direction regarding the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, we find ourselves set back once again. A federal appeals court has ruled that the Pentagon may temporarily reinstate a ban on openly gay men and women in uniform. This is starting to look somewhat like a tennis match, and who knows how it will end.
Baby steps! A federal judge has disallowed the Pentagon’s reinstatement of its ban on allowing openly gay men and women in the U.S. military. While they are still appealing her decision, which has declared the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy unconstitutional, this is definitely a step in a positive direction.

Lady Gaga announced via Twitter that she will be headlining a rally in Portland, Maine, in hopes of persuading the state’s two Republican senators to vote yes on repealing the military’s, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. Gotta give it to Gaga, always standing up for what she believes in!
Lt. Dan Choi, one of the most prominent voices against the U.S. military’s don’t ask, don’t tell policy, came out last year. And now he’s been discharged, and the army looks like a bunch of assholes for firing him - which, I guess is the point.
Victor has been an Air Force fighter pilot for 18 years. He has nine Air Medals, including one for valor. And now he’s been fired, two years before he’d be eligible for retirement, because he’s gay.
