The technology isn’t quite there yet for the 3G iPhone, but holograph messaging may eventually replace voicemail, email and texting as the favorite mode of communication among the tech-enabled. Like videoconferencing, holographic messages would have an appeal limited to those rare people who don’t mind seeing themselves on camera. But it’s still a neat trick.

STYLE BUZZ: The classic-yet-confusing 1972 design of the New York City subway map has been updated and released as a limited-edition print. Vignelli’s map was a headache for tourists and commuters alike, but it did land a spot at the MoMA. Proceeds from the sales of the signed 2008 edition - there are 500 prints available for $299 - will go to the Green Workers Cooperative, a community coop incubator, in the South Bronx.
