Music Buzz Until a one-two punch of La Bouche and Ace of Base caused a rogue faction to cut the power, we were having '90s music nostalgia day in the BuzzFeed office today. But that's no reason the musical nostalgia-fest can't continue online! What was the first record you owned? Comment below, or better yet, upload a music video from the album. Points will be awarded for general awesomeness.
Politics Buzz Here are five images from yesterday's Presidential speech on healthcare. Download them, add text or alter them as you see fit, then combine two or more of them in some form to tell a story. Let's see what we can come up with!
More disturbing images have surfaced of GOP members acting up during the President's Health Care speech yesterday. And this is just the beginning. Use this handy transparency to make your own!
Beatles Rock Band comes out tomorrow, so you can finally butcher classic Beatles songs in the comfort of your home. While we wait, let's do a collaborative version of the same concept on BuzzFeed! Go to YouTube, search for covers of your all-time favorite Beatles song, then post the best/worst result. Here's mine - screamo band Thrice doing “I've Just Seen A Face.” Ouch.
Here's one I made for a Microsoft site directed at businessmen who are into Furry Hentai. [Note: Microsoft did a terrible job PhotoShopping a black guy out of their website for a promotion in Poland. And now they are in full apology mode. Let's help them out. Take this original image and fix it in a way that it is appealing to a different demographic!]
Go to YouTube and type in the name of your hometown or the town you grew up in + the word “reprazent”. Find a video that speaks to you and post it in this thread. Let's see whose hometown reprazents the hardest! Here's mine. It's pretty hardcore. Hopefully someone can do better.
Celebrity Buzz Who was it?! Submit a picture or a story, or just a name. Let's see who's got the most famous ex-classmate. Of the BuzzFeed editors, only Peggy went to high school with famous people, but they're big winners - Peyton and Eli Manning. They are famous quarterbacks. Who've you got?
Take a picture of your office kitchen, and upload it below. Gold star goes to the cleanest, and a Toxic badge awaits the messiest. Who will win!? Let's do this thing!
Submit a picture, and let's compare and contrast! Here's mine. It's fine - a little cramped sometimes, but it feels safe and reassuring, and it almost always has toilet paper. I spend at least 3 hours a day in here. It's like a home away from home.
Movie Buzz Inspired by a post by Lindsey yesterday, what is the best worst movie you've ever seen? Try to think of something really drastically bad that is also amazing, post a trailer or movie poster to the collection, and explain why you love it.
Culture Buzz These range from goofy costume-grade stuff to kind of disturbing, steampunk-level DIY retractable blades. The perfect compliment to your bad Wolverine costume.
Culture Buzz Let's make a collection of second attempts - what's something you can think of that was better than the original? Could be a sequel that was better than the first installment, a movie that was better than the book it was based on, a cover song, or pretty much anything that's been done before, except worse . Add yours below, and we'll see if we can stir up some controversy.
Culture Buzz What's a fad that you got really into back in the day? Depending on how you look at it, this could be an opportunity for joyful reminiscence or embarrassing confession. Huge bonus points if you have pictures of yourself actually participating in the fad.
Culture Buzz I just confessed my love for Nicolas Cage movies in an earlier post, and it felt surprisingly good to finally be honest about that in public. This collection is designed to provide a similar service. What's something you love that everyone else thinks is lame? Pics and video are encouraged - just provide a justification for your guilty pleasure. This'll be cathartic, I promise.
A candid shot of President Obama looking at the photos hanging in the White House…wait, what's that? Please make your own and add it! You'll find the transparency you need right here (in .png form).
Music Buzz Some truly brilliant work from BuzzFeed readers over this weekend in creating a couple of hundred totally convincing rock albums using the Wikipedia Album Generator. Objectively speaking, this may be one of the best things that has ever happened - I'm still checking back every hour or so to look at the new ones. Here are a few of my favorites so far. You can make your own to add to the collection here.
Culture Buzz Let's create a haven on the Internet where people can go to feel uplifted and joyful. What are the best, happiest things you can think of? I'll start. Unicorns, obvs. Rainbows. Cupcakes. Children under 5. Drew Barrymore. Only happy comments, videos, and pictures are allowed on this page, please, and they must be posted with joy in your heart, otherwise it will be obvious to everyone that you're only pretending. All sarcasm will be taken literally. Hooray!
The image on the left shows an undeniably cute rat. Which is deeply confusing, because I thought rodents were supposed to be ugly creatures. So which is it? Pick a side of the debate, then post an image of a cute or an ugly rodent to justify your claim. Hopefully we can tip the scales one way or the other and sort this mess out once and for all.
I mean seriously. Not to be down on rats or anything, but I didn't realize they could be quite so outlandishly cute. This is preposterous.
Music Buzz Rolling Stone unveils the secret White House record collection, which was last updated during the Carter Administration. It includes such classics as Led Zeppelin IV, Let It Bleed, and more by Santana, Neil Young, Talking Heads, Isaac Hayes, Elton John, the Cars and Barry Manilow. But the question everybody's been asking is, “Will Obama bring it back?”
