Izod Indy Car driver Dan Wheldon lost his life in a firey 15-car crash in the early stages of a race in Las Vegas this afternoon. The race was called after drivers were informed of Wheldon's death as three other drivers were also taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas. Our thoughts are with Wheldon's friends and family.

Culture Buzz Tom Brokaw and his wife, Meredith, were involved in a car accident in the Bronx that left one woman dead. Brokaw is unhurt — the woman, Suejaes Estrada, was killed after losing control of her car, swerving into the middle lane, and was thrown from her car onto train tracks 40 feet below the highway.

Here's one of those stories that seems too sad to be true: An Italian woman who arrived late for the Air France plane flight that crashed in the Atlantic last week has been killed in a car accident.
