Today was a great day for seeing wildlife on a New England whale watch. Except for the trash from someone's party.
Culture Buzz Balloooooons!!! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade has been a tradition of Thankgiving for decades. It started out as a way for the employees of Macy's to say thank you to New York. Macy's started using balloons in their parade in 1927 and it has been tradition since. Here's part 1 featuring balloons from 1927 to 1968.
Food Buzz What master chef sorcery is this? Combined with chocolate pudding, Bakerella gets creative to make edible ice cream bowls.
I'd hate to see what this cat would do to a stuffed Garfield. Or another cat. (via viralmixtape.com)
From a series titled “An Abrupt End” which, to be fair, sounds more poetic. By British artist and graphic designer James Huse who writes more about it on his site. (via)
Culture Buzz While clowns may be able to create animals using balloons, Larry Moss and Kelly Cheatle go a step further creating large balloon sculptures and even some balloon clothes. You can check out more of their work here.
What birthday present do you get for a dog who loves to pop balloons? A room full of balloons!
Check out this dope ad by MTV Brazil. They pop balloons at a very high rate and speed to make an awesome stop motion commercial. (Via Official Hype)
Culture Buzz Balloons! Photos taken with my iPhone while in the crowd. The obstructing lamp post, shoddy camerawork and sea of human heads make you feel like you're really there!
Culture Buzz There's something undeniably magical about hot air balloons. From the floating head of Darth Vader to a balloon shaped like Mr. Peanut, there's a hot air balloon in here for everyone.
If the clowns at the circus made these, I would buy one every time. Also, if all the effects for Transformers 3 were being constructed from balloons, I would have reserved my ticket months ago.
…beyond creepy [Ed Note: Whatever - I'm withholding judgment until I see what he can do with a watermelon.]
Who will win this gargantuan battle of wills? Apart from all of us? Because, honestly, if you don't emerge victorious after watching this video of a cat battling a staticky balloon, then you are watching this video of a cat battling a staticky balloon completely wrong. (Via.)
I might be slightly exaggerating here, but this balloon gun, that works like Russian Roulette, might be just as frightening as the real thing. Especially if you are Globophobic, like me. Globophobic is a fear of popping balloons and while I've never been on Maury, I feel like I might have this phobia.
These balloons were handed out at the Museum of Sex in New York to promote Exploring the Pleasure of Oral Sex, a new exhibit.
These balloons are being given out by the NYC Museum of Sex to promote an oral sex exhibit they've got going on. I think they are designed to make it look like the person inflating them is jokingly blowing on her friend's belly.
The pole-climbing black man frightens white folk, but appearances can be deceiving! Similarly, black herbal toothpaste looks weird and scary, but it's actually pretty good. I think that's the message, anyway. This commercial is sad because it's pretty racist and also because it's pretty sad. The lonely man had a lousy day and he clearly makes awful toothpaste choices. Ruining your childhood memories, because all you ever wanted was a POODLE. NOW MAKE ME A POODLE.
Some of these old Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade pictures are adorable, while others are just straight up weird. The first helium filled balloons debuted in 1927, and were Felix the Cat, the Dragon, an Elephant, and a Toy Soldier. I have no idea when this crocodile showed up at the party, but i'm guessing fashionable late, as crocodiles always are.
This man videotaped himself climbing into a giant balloon, apparently without thinking through his next step. If I lived for a thousand years, it would never have occurred to me to try this.
Culture Buzz Artist D.Billy creates graffiti from balloons. He chronicles the onomatopoeias of everyday life by adding words like ‘floosh’ next to a fire hydrant and ‘rrring’ next to a pay phone. He is joining ranks with other graffiti artists who explore alternative materials in street art like Reverse Grafitti (graffiti made by cleaning grime) Knitta Please(knit graffiti) and the Space Invaders mosaic graffiti.
