  • Eerie Images From Japan’s Suicide Forest

Surrounding the base of Mount Fuji, Aokigahara Forest—the “Sea of Trees”—is stunningly beautiful, but more than 100 people a year commit suicide within its realm. Supposedly, the inspiration for this practice is from the 1960 novel, Wave of Trees, by Seicho Matsumoto, whose protagonists kill themselves there. The scenery is creepily serene.
