Homeland Security Visits KC Panties Boutique Over Royals Undies

DHS officials visited a Kansas City intimate apparel boutique Monday after the store created panties with a KC Royals-inspired design. Insert obligatory panty raid joke: here.

According to the Kansas City Star, agents from the Department of Homeland Security visited Birdies Panties on Monday over infringement of a KC Royals copyright. The Lucky Royals boyshorts featured a hand-drawn design on the butt inspired by the logo of local World Series hopefuls the Kansas City Royals.

When the two male officers first entered her boutique, artist and store owner Peregrine Honig asked one of the guys what size he was looking for. He flashed his badge and asked her to step outside.

Honig told the Star's Jeneé Osterheldt she designed the shorts "to help celebrate the hometown team." She initially thought she had avoided infringing on any possible copyrights by drawing her own design by hand.

But DHS agents weren't convinced and confiscated the undies, set to go on sale next week. Honig was informed that by joining the K and C in the design she had violated the copyright. Birdies co-owner Danielle Meister complimented the politeness of the officers involved, saying, "You could tell they felt like they were kicking a puppy." Still, Honig said the whole experience was "scary." Honig signed a statement confirming she would not use the logo and the officers were on their way with several dozen pair of undies in an "official Homeland Security bag."
