It’s abusive not to have trigger warnings for content when you know that there are people in recovery about. There is a time and a place for trigger warnings. Yeah, triggering is a real thing.
Some of the 1-800-Flowers arrangements are through the local florists but some of the others they offer come in a box. 1-800-Flowers owns the wire service Bloomnet that moves orders between order takers and florists, almost everyone uses Bloomnet along with FTD and Teleflora wire services. I’ve never had a problem getting the boxed and delivered items, in fact, they’ve been good and not that expensive, but say you call into one of these wire service order takers and order a dozen roses, a box of chocolates and a teddy bear. Around Valentines Day based upon the prices where I used to work that would run you 80 for the roses, 15 for the chocolates and 15 to 25 for the bear. Delivery would be an additional 16 dollars. Thats a minimum of 126 bucks you’ll be out. Then they would turn around and give the florist 60 to 70 for the roses, ten for the chocolates and ten for the bear plus 10 to deliver for a grand total of around 90 bucks, meaning their profit is a good 36 dollars. Why pay all that extra to a wire service?
I worked for one of those competitors of 1-800-flowers and I can tell you that anyone insisting on speaking to a supervisor because the cs person was ‘rude’ or not telling the customer what they wanted to hear would be told very firmly no. Company policy at a lot of these places does not allow you to transfer to a supervisor. They don’t want to deal with that plus if you are selling/resolving a certain dollars worth daily of product there’s no way you would be fired for giving less than stellar customer service. It’s all about the dollars. Order from your local florist if you’re interested in a no hassle transaction and the best value for your money.
I used to work for one of 1-800-Flowers direct competitors and a great deal of the dissatisfaction was because the sender didn’t always understand what they are doing. Yes, there are better ways to get flowers, like calling a florist direct, so if you do order from one of the middlemen companies this is what you need to know.
1- The photo shown on the website is ALWAYS the premium or biggest size. If you order the small cheapie version it is going to be very small, have very few flowers and look nothing like the photo. There is fine print under the photo saying that they cannot guarantee the same flowers/colors. If you must order from these places please order the biggest one because anything else is going to be a freaking disappointment to the recipient. Forty bucks buys almost nothing in the floral world.
2-another reason to order from your local florist is because those companies use the local florist but not all local florists will accept their orders. Your order might be farmed out to a really awful florist who’ll throw together three wilted carnations and call it a mixed arrangement. The local florists get screwed on these arrangements because the companies charge a delivery charge starting at something like 15 bucks on up. How much does the florist get? Not near as much as the middleman.
3-Another reason to order from a local florist - at these companies most of the sales staff doesn’t know diddly about flowers or the costs of sending out flowers and with openly lie to you just to make the sale and let customer service worry about appeasing you after they get their commission on the sale.
4-Where I worked on holidays like Valentine’s Day we’d take orders for delivery on Valentine’s Day up until the moment Bloomnet (1-800-Flowers owned wire service) cut off orders for the day. By that time usually all florists were completely of flowers and would kick back those orders as undeliverable. The company would have all of us get on the phone and call florists one by one in each area to get those last minute orders to go out.
5-When orders were cut off for the holiday customers calling in would be given a message saying no more orders could be taken and to call in the next day for customer service. The reason for that is that all the staff at that point is engaged in calling a list of florists to try to get a last second delivery. Later we also started calling up customers to ask if we could substitute something or deliver on another day with a discount. Many of the people working in these places are decent hardworking folks genuinely trying to fulfill orders placed by people who can’t be bothered to take the time to contact a direct florist. Remember that old hoary chestnut saying ‘if you truly care send the very best?’ The very best is not a big impersonal international floral company. I learned during my years there that Valentine’s Day has nothing to do with love, more with guilt, societal pressures and expectations plus entitlement. If you really love someone you’ll show it every day, not just that day.
Yes, you guys really dropped the ball on here and did a puff piece that makes all homeschooling seem valid while ignoring the problems. Poorly researched and one-sided. Check out the reality of many homeschoolers are the websites listed by Sarah Jones. It’s not all giggling and gluesticks.
Ain’t no big thing. I prefer going through self checkout just so I don”t have to deal with people that don’t know what they are doing. It’s pretty simple. I’ve yet to see a self check out option that I didn’t like. It’s not brain surgery!
We have the tiny books along with lots of the other stuff. My daughter loved the Spice Girls and packed all her SG gear up in a box. Saw it just today.
