I couldn’t agree with you more! I was appalled at how many people in the comments section agree with this type of “parenting.” As a parent, I can’t imagine treating my daughter so disrespectfully, or thinking that somehow doing so would teach her how to be respectful. These parents seem to have good intentions, but they are teaching their children to behave out of fear of humiliation. What happened to discussing actions and consequences? Your child was disrespectful on facebook? Talk about social media and how words leave a lasting effect, and then delete their account or restrict computer privileges. Your child snuck a boy in at 3am? How about discussing respectful dating boundaries as a young adult and making sure your teen is educated when it comes to sex. I cringed reading this article, but was shocked at how it was received by the bf community.
