Which Retail Chains Have The Best Employee Discount?
If you’re gonna hate your job, you’ve got to at least get something more than minimum wage out of it. For seasonal employment planning purposes, ranked from worst to best.

20. Trader Joe’s

For everyone, 20% off of all purchases made at any Whole Foods Market location with a discount card you receive on day one. Spouses and “eligible domestic partners” may also receive the card. Whole Foods also offers a controversial optional program that can increase your employee discount up to 30% based on your BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol, and whether you smoke or not. Those showing “platinum” health will earn 30% discounts; “gold” gets 27% and silver 25%, while “bronze” wins 22% off.
10. Victoria’s Secret
20% off for your first two months, increased to 30% off thereafter.

The same discount is also available on one each of the various iPod models, an iPad, Airport base station, Apple display, and a “reasonable quantify” of Apple accessories. There is a 50% discount on most Apple software and 10% on third-party accessories, both in “reasonable quantities.” Friends and family of an Apple employee are also eligible, limited to three products at a 15% discount. In addition to this discount, Apple employees are eligible for either $250 off the price of an iPad, or $500 off the price of any Mac model, usable once every three years.

4. The Gap
Complicated discount system with discounts for Banana Republic and Old Navy as well, but the discount percentage varies from 30% - 50%, based on how much you’re buying and whether it’s at your home store. You get a discount card which includes discounts for spouses and domestic partners.

jamesc70 2 months agoAt Landry’s Inc., if you sign-up for the discount program, you get $4.50 (per paycheck) taken out of your paycheck. In exchange, you get 50% food and rides and 30% off retail. Personally, that’s the best discount I’ve had for any company. Go to Red Sushi or Saltgrass Steakhouse. Your bill is ~$175. Cut it to ~$87. But you have to tip from the original amount (~20%). In the end, you’re paying $122 w/ tip.

aliciaw 6 months agoI’m an associate at Macy’s and our discount is 20% at Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s (and on average about 1 weekend a month we get an additional 10%) we also have what it called “Macy Money” it comes in denominations of $2, $3, $5, $25. Its exclusively for associates and is earned for opening store credit cards, signing cardholders up for program called Thanks For Sharing and just for good deeds, customer compliments or just asking for it. You can use it in conjunction with your employee discount AND coupons from the mail. I’ve gotten Calvin Klein and Coach bags that retail at $300-$400 for under $50. ALSO some brands within Macy’s have “specialist” positions in which you can receive bonuses and allowances from that specific brand. It’s pretty awesome, I’m seriously considering making Macy’s my career because I don’t want to lose all the amazing discounts.

keith adkins 6 months agoYes at home depot we don’t get any discount in store, but we also have access to health benefits even as part time employees. We also have an employee only site that we can get discounts on tons of products. They also give us twice a year a bonus check and the amount is based on how well the store did with a minimum of a $50 check if your store gets 95% of sales plan. The last one the company sent out every store got money. So yes we don’t get a store discount, but they treat us well enough that we don’t hate the company.

Rhodes Scholar 6 months agoWhile the Best Buy discount may look good on paper, it really doesn’t translate all that well on “Big Ticket Items” like TVs, Computers and for sure, Apple products. (Where there isn’t any discount unless a new model is coming out.)
It IS fantastic on accessories and things like that.

jennm3 6 months agoI worked at JCPenney (in the salon) for a few months, including the holiday season. The 20% discount I had plus the awesome holiday markdowns meant I bought my family Christmas for cheap. I wish I had time to go work retail there during the holiday season because it’s a REALLY good company to work for.
