This Sloth Bear Just Wants To Be A Dog
This wild bear, named Buddu, wandered into a village in India, and has lived with the family as a pet ever since. The bear has since been rescued by wildlife officials and will be re-introduced to the wild, which is the right thing — but still, the pictures of Buddu with his chosen family are just precious.

There has been a long campaign in India to end the practice of taming sloth bears. While taking the bear in question away seems bureaucratic it makes more sense when you about India’s history of dancing sloth bears. Sidenote: although they are insectivores, there have been hundreds of sloth bear maulings and dozens of deaths. I do feel unhappy for this particular bear being removed from this family, though.

Maybe the bear didn’t like the wild, which is why he forcibly domesticated himself. Besides, he’s clearly friendly, so it’s not like he posed a danger to his adoptive family and their village. If the bear’s happy, who gives a flying fuck?
