Why Eating Horses Is Totally Fine

Summer Anne Burton 2 months agoNot into eating horses or any animals, but I have to wonder about the cognitive dissonance that it takes to be totally disgusted by this and then turn around and chow down on bacon.

Mongognom 2 months agoThe reason why this became a newscase to beginn with is that horses, unlike pigs and cows, are not raised for slaughter. The horses are often race or farm horses that have gotten to old or injured. But that also means that these horses have been medicated and tested positive for phenylbutazone, an anti-inflammatory banned from the food chain over fears it causes bone marrow and liver problems in humans.

smg7320 3 months agoI agree that it’s arbitrary, but I don’t see why that should be a reason to not eat something. I eat chicken, but I probably wouldn’t eat a cat; if I were raised in a society that kept chickens as pets and cats and livestock, then I would likely eat accordingly, but all that argument says to me is “you would have different habits if you came from a different culture.”

Summer Anne Burton 3 months agoI’m just saying that’s kind of an arbitrary distinction. Saying “if I knew them I wouldn’t eat them” is probably a pretty good reason not to eat something, no?

Aria Venom 3 months agoMost people(not all, mind you) don’t keep bacon as pets. I’ve been around horses since I was 6 and the thought of eating one makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit. However if I had a pig as a pet since I was a kid I’m sure I’d feel much the same way about eating it.
