This Sled Dog Isn't Letting Blindness Stop Her From Racing With Her Team

A dog named Laura is racing in this year's Iditarod despite a condition that has caused her to go blind.

This is Laura, a 5-year-old sled dog participating in this year’s Iditarod.

However, Laura is dealing with more challenges than most in Alaska’s famous race, KTUU reported.

Musher Kelly Maixner, who is currently racing in his fifth Iditarod attempt, owns Laura.

About two years ago, he began to notice the pup's eyes were becoming cloudy, he told KTUU.

A vet diagnosed Laura with a disease called pannus, which causes blindness. However, Laura didn't let the disease slow her down.

Laura is still running with her team, relying on feel rather than sight.

“I think a lot of these dogs could run with their eyes closed and just feel where they’re going,” Maixner told KTUU.
