Scarlett Johansson To Get $20M For “Avengers” Sequel

The New York Post reports the actress will get a significant bump in pay to reprise her role as Black Widow.

According to the New York Post, her salary puts her ahead of Angelina Jolie who was paid $19 million for The Tourist, which flopped domestically.

The $20 million club is a elite group of actresses. Only four have done it before ScarJo:

1. Julia Roberts: Erin Brockovich (2000)
2. Cameron Diaz: Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003)
3. Angelina Jolie: Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)
4. Reese Witherspoon: Penelope (2006)

To put her payday in perspective, Forbes ranked Kristen Stewart as the highest paid actress in Hollywood. She earned $34.5 million for her roles in Snow White and the Huntsmen and the Twilight series. Though, Stewart only pulled $12.5 million per film - just a little over half of ScarJo’s new salary.

The salary is a huge bump for the actress who reportedly only earned $4-6 million in the original Avengers film. Compare that to the rest of the cast:

Robert Downey Jr.: $50 million (including upfront salary and box office gross)
Samuel L. Jackson and ScarJo: $4-6 million
Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo: $2-3 million

According to Vulture, ScarJo’s character had a significant amount of screen time just behind Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans:

Black Widow: 33:35. The most surprising thing to emerge from our little experiment was the fact that Scarlett Johansson’s three-point landing super-assassin got the third-most screen time of all the superheroes. In fact, she got the most unbroken dialogue scenes of any of the six: her introductory interrogation scene (3:14); recruiting Banner in the slums (2:49); a face-off on the Helicarrier with Loki (3:30); and a conversation with Hawkeye following their fight (2:40). Looks like Whedon realized he needed to give one of the film’s two strong female characters lots of talk time.

In fact, based on her new salary that’s roughly $606,060 per minute of screen time. And she most likely will get more in the sequel to justify her salary.
