karar2 2 months agoI’m confused. “Oh wow. This is a good photo. I’ll use it as my profile pic!” How is this disrespectful? How many of these guys (or people in general) wake up and think “I know! I’ll totally go out and take my new dating profile pic at a memorial site!” I’m sure that some people do it intentionally, but everyone? Please. Is it tacky? A little. But if I find a good picture of myself, I’m sure as hell going to use it.

newu1002 3 months agoIsn’t it kind of worth noting that perhaps this pictures were not originally intended to be used on Grindr (with the obvious exception of the shirtless guy). Grindr allows you to post any picture you have in your phone, so isn’t it possible that some of these guys were fortunate enough to have a good picture taken at the memorial, and they then decided to use it as their Grindr picture? I suppose it’s a long shot, but it’s still a likely scenario.

vitor2 3 months agoHere’s a mystery: Why would gays take their pictures at a Holocaust Memorial - designed to help us not forget a systematic murderous purge of Jews that eventually expanded into a systematic murderous purge of other groups like, well - let me think here - OH! GAYS! Could it be like - uh - they are celebrating their progress from being so oppressed for so long? Could it be a big “F… you!” to those who felt justified in the past for condemning their orientation? And wow - the mystery continues - what would even attract gays to come to this memorial - uhm - seeing as how thousands upon thousands of GLBT people were put to death by the Nazis - not to mention the fact that when the camps were liberated at the end of the war, America cooperated with the German government in IMPRISONING the surviving GLBT persons that had been interred at the concentration camps. Before making comments like, “The lack of respect for what this monument is and what it stands for is mind boggling.” Be sure you recognize, well - What this monument is and what it stands for! Way to FAIL, Buzzfeed! I don’t self identify as gay, and I don’t think Grindr is either a good idea or a good representation of gay people. But I do resent Buzzfeed trying to create a controversy over a segment of the population that has enough problems and enemies already.

boweryboy 3 months agoWell…hmmm…I’m the one who made that comment “lack of respect for the monument and what it stands for is mindboggling”. Perhaps I wasn’t clear in my meaning. The fact that these gay men are taking and posting Grindr profile photos at a monument memorializing the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent Jewish men, women and children is hugely disrespectful. Not to mention the fact that many of those Jewish men and women were gay and were forced to wear pink triangles as a badge of dishonor and were murder not only because they were Jewish but also because they were gay. So yeah, there’s a huge lack of respect on these men’s part for the monument, the meaning behind it, and the gross loss of life. It’s mindboggling. Also, I’m hard pressed to believe their photos are some sort of “fuck you” statement to being oppressed because the sole purpose of their Grindr profile photos is to get them laid. I think you’re giving these men more credit than they deserve since the head they’re using isn’t the one on their shoulders, but that’s just my opinion.

Richard Parker 3 months agoWell, if you lack enough self-respect to actually use Grindr, is this really a surprise? I have shaken my head at the popularity of Grindr since day one. It has set the gay community back several decades.

Well, I actually agree with Richard Parker but then again, maybe my moral values are bit higher than the average gay man. Being gay doesn’t have to be all about sex yet your response is leading me to believe that’s what it’s about for you. It’s also interesting that all these men are between the ages of 22-37, so there’s obviously some life lessons that still need to be learned. To each his own, I guess.

kristicolleen 3 months agoThe thing that gets me is that they obviously had a friend taking their picture and not one of them thought to say “hey, dude, this is kinda tacky”. But then, it’s Grindr, so…. Also, now all I can think of is last week’s episode of Californication.
