Revolvers are not referred to as semi automatic. They are single-action or double-action. With a single action the hammer must be cocked before the gun will fire.

In a nut shell if we hadn’t started with simpler ideas first like what happens during combustion, the theory of gravity, the study of the electromagnetic spectrum (light waves, radio waves) etc. we still wouldn’t understand. It really comes down to cumulative knowledge. They understand what the sun is made of by spectrum analysis. Nuclear power and nuclear weapons are directly attributable to this understanding.
