5 Animals That Should Be Named After Olympian Super Stars

Inspired by the two adorable cheetah cubs who will be named after the fasted American Olympians, we've created a list of other recently-born animals who are looking for names.

1. Name The Tiny, Tiny Turtle - Gabby

This smallest turtle ever hatched at Pacific Northwest Turtleworks in Kenmore, Washington and is a big hit on the Internet, should be appropriately named after the smallest Olympian on Team USA, Gabby Douglas. At 4-9, Douglas is the shortest member of the USA’s 530-member team, but after last night’s historic win, no one is standing taller.

2. Two Adorable Cheetah Cubs Named After The Fastest American Olympians - Carmelita & Justin

A lot of perks come with winning an Olympic medal, but we’re guessing the U.S. sprinting champions weren’t expecting the wild privilege of having big cats named after them. The National Zoo in Washington, D.C., thought it would be fitting to christen their two new cheetah cubs after the top-finishing Americans in the 100-meter dash. The 3-month-old cubs have been named Carmelita and Justin, after medalists Carmelita Jeter and Justin Gatlin.

3. Name The Male Masai Giraffe Born Two Weeks Ago At The Houston Zoo - Chris

Born to mom Tyra and father Mtembei, this new 160-pound, 74-inch tall baby boy at the Houston Zoo is looking for a name. The basketball player on the U.S. Olympic Men’s Team Roster closest in height and weight to the newborn giraffe is Chris Paul from the Los Angeles Clippers, standing tall at 6 feet and 183 pounds.
