Who started calling them assault rifles? Why, the military did in the 70’s you moron. “Assault rifles are short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachinegun and rifle cartridges.” Of course gun nuts get hung up on the selective fire part, totally ignoring that we are selling weapons that are directly descended from those military designs. They have the handling and mechanical characteristics of their parents. And they fire 5.56×45mm rounds, perfect for pumping people full of holes but a little undersized for deer, etc. But then they have the gall to suggest that these rifles were designed for hunting. Brainwashed fuckers.

As for danger, 5.56x45mm rounds have much higher muzzle velocity and do significantly more damage to the human body than a 9mm. That’s why the military picked that particular round - small caliber keeps recoil low, and high velocity still results major tissue damage and ability to penetrate through weak cover. As you say, AR-15s and similar weapons have nothing to do with hunting. Nor do they make particularly useful self defense weapons. If you look around the gun forums most seem to, instead, fantasize about using theirs on law enforcement, military personnel, and political opponents.

Yes, those 5.56x45mm rounds are much more dangerous than a 9mm, that can be shot at the same speed and accuracy. And the right to bear arms has NOTHING to do with hunting douchnozzle.
