Thank you! This was my major gripe with the movie. His flip to evil kind of comes out of left field and isn’t telegraphed or earned at all. It felt like Disney just WANTED to have a villain, and since they couldn’t have Anna fall in love with TWO guys, why not just make one of them evil to get him out of the picture? To me, it would have been more plausible (and comical) if they had their first kiss and then quickly realized there was no chemistry there whatsoever, in spite of their declarations of “true love at first sight”. Then Hans could continue to try and help Anna find her act of true love to save her. The Duke, on the other hand, was a bumbling villain from the start who turned only minorly sinister as the movie went on. Turn up the “sinister” a notch by having him try to remove Hans from temporary power, and he would have been a perfect Disney villain.
