Everyone's Talking About Nick Clegg's Trousers

Mr Clegg, are you wearing jeans or trousers?

The Liberal Democrats are proud of their traditions, so once again, at the party's final conference before the general election, their leader took to the stage to respond to some serious questions on policy from the audience.

Except all anyone could talk about was his clothes.

As Nick Clegg took to the stage, the audience realised something was odd. He wasn't wearing a suit.

Here he is from another angle.

The Clegg casual wear, different from this morning's garb. So, he has changed but not into a suit

And suddenly, Britain's elite journalists, many of whom had travelled to Glasgow specially for the conference, became fashion commentators.

There were important questions raised about his style decisions. I mean, brown shoes with a black shirt. He should know better.

And really, there wasn't any support for Clegg's casual look.

Nick Clegg's look today is a bit "off duty priest"

Although there were good suggestions for what he could use his outfit for after the general election.

Clegg goes for open neck black shirt for conference speech. Looks like he works in a night club.

Maybe the look would work if he could go back in time...

But let's put serious questions to the fore. What does it mean that he WASN'T WEARING A TIE?!

Clegg not wearing a tie for this Q&A... LEADERSHIP BID KLAXON!...[now w/ added pic for extra excitement]

It's actually a trend. Chief secretary to the treasury Danny Alexander and Lib Dem president Tim Farron also appeared at the conference without ties.

But people weren't impressed by Alexander's no-tie look either.

Seriously, whoever told Danny Alexander “no-tie” was a good idea should hand in his conference pass. #libdem14

    Nope, not a good look.

Danny Alexander looks even more lightweight with no tie and jacket on. Likes he's just wandered on stage. #FibDems

    Just...nope.

Good old Danny Alexander. Speech in shirtsleeves with no tie at Lib Dems today looked as though had stayed out all night at a Glasgow casino

But wait, *PLOT TWIST*. Nick Clegg wasn't wearing jeans, he was wearing chinos. Apparently.

BREAKING: Senior Lib Dem sources tell me: "They are chinos, not jeans." #ldconf
