You bring up some interesting points. Is someone’s gender merely defined by things? If you took a person, and stripped them of all personal possessions, would they still identify as one gender or another? I think so. These people deep down identify as their opposite gender, but I think the only way to express themselves is to fall into these gender stereotypes. Also, I’d like to add that these stereotypes are so ingrained (generally speaking) in today’s society that it is almost impossible to eliminate them all together. Despite everything, Barbies are still VERY much a girl toy, they are marketed that way and they are bought primarily for girls. Wanting to change gender stereotypes doesn’t make it so. Maybe someday, though.
