5 Things We Could Do To Make Elgin Even Better

Elgin's great. Obviously. But if we made these five changes it would be even better.

1. Build a new primary school

Let's face it - everyone knows the schools are filling up fast. If we build a new primary school then all the kids can go to a school with smaller class sizes which helps them learn more easily. Happy wee tikes and happy Mums and Dads.

2. Axe the care tax

As hard as it is to believe, if you get care because you're sick for a long time or disabled, the Council sometimes charges you as much as half of all the money you have that isn't spent on rent and food etc. It's basically like taxing someone for being disabled. What's that all about? So let's #AxeCareTax

3. Get the town centre going again

SERIOUSLY - the town centre could be a lot better and a lot busier. We need more cafes and restaurants. We need more independent and big name shops. If we get rid of the red tape and help entrepreneurs and business flourish we'll have a busy, lively town centre to be proud of. And by the way, lets all adopt that wee dog.

4. Fix the housing shortage

Hundreds and hundreds of people are waiting for a council house because we aren't building enough. We've got to build more to get the waiting lists down. But we also have to make sure that a lot of the private homes we build are affordable too. Having a home is pretty essential stuff right? RIGHT!

5. Bring better jobs and better wages

This is a biggie. Here in Moray, we have some of the lowest wage rates anywhere in the country. The thing is, if we get going with Number 4 then they should rise a bit. But we could be encouraging people to pay the Living Wage - and we could pressure the government to raise the minimum wage. But if we make Elgin and Moray a place to do business - wages will rise. Someone get the drinks in!

6. One extra thing... Go Vote for Craig Graham on Thursday

It's that simple. If you live in Elgin North you can vote for Craig on Thursday 11th to become the newest Moray Councillor. Let's face it, the Council needs a good shake up. Craig would do that. He will get straight to work on those five issues. All you need to do is cast your vote. GO, GO, GO!
