Dermot O'Leary Won't Be In This Year's "X Factor"

Having presented the show for the last eight years, he's issued a statement on Twitter saying that it is time for him to "move on".

Dermot O'Leary has left The X Factor.

O'Leary, who's hosted the show since 2007, issued a statement on Twitter on Friday afternoon.

Good afternoon. After eight wonderful years on @TheXFactor it's time for me to move on.

I'd like to thank ITV, Simon, The X Factor family and particularly the viewers, all of whom have been a big part of my life for so long.

I'd like to wish the team all the best for the future, especially whoever takes over from me.

It is unclear whether he quit or was pushed.

It had been widely suspected that The X Factor would have to make some changes to its format, panel or presenters before the show returns in the autumn, with many complaining that the last series was unsurprising and underwhelming.

The ratings for last year's final were the lowest for a decade, reported BBC News in December, even though earlier that series the show introduced changes such as Friday episodes and the return of Simon Cowell as a judge. Dermot has also been very visible on the BBC recently, taking part in a 24 hour danceathon for Comic Relief earlier this month.

    So... R.I.P. DERMOT DANCING.
