Poor Darren Aronofsky

While Mickey Rourke gets the obvious nod for his performance in The Wrestler, Aronofsky got screwed. No Best Picture, no Best Director, nada.

  • I'm a little late to this discussion, but having seen the movie now, I can say that I'm definitely NOT siding with Darren on this one. I am still infuriated by the last 5 minutes of that movie. Right back at you, buddy.

  • Thank goodness we won't have to suffer twice: once for watching his movie and second for an undeserved nomination.

  • That movie was amazing, but it was Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei's The Wrestler, really. A couple of brave performances. Not to remove Aranofsky from the equation, but he'll get his bullshit phony award sometime soon. For now he'll just have to be the white Spike Lee. If you've never seen The Fountain, you really should make the time.

  • while aranofsky deserves credit for keeping him on a leash, what makes the wrestler awesome is largely mickey rourke's performance. the directors who got nominated, i feel, had to work a little harder to shape their respective films into supposedly “quality” ones. then again, the oscars just seem to hate directors from new york. scorsese only just got his, and kubrick NEVER even won one.

  • He has become one of those directors that commercials mention by name though. The Wrestler is now “Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler.” That's not bad. Plus: these awards are BS. I mean, James Cameron won best director for Titanic. Boo.
