Brilliant campaign idea…but I am a little torn since there are some situations that landmines are all that are keeping little kids and their parents from being slaughtered by state sponsored genocide….like in Burma (illegitimately renamed “Myanmar” by the junta).  The ethnic groups in the jungles are outnumbered and outgunned (thanks mostly to the ChiComs selling arms to the junta), and if it weren't for the landmines surrounding a few pockets of refuge in the jungles of Eastern Burma, the people would have been shot on sight or forced into slavery (then shot when they were no longer useful), the woman raped, the men tortured, etc.  Ban landmines but only if you raise funds to arm the folks in places like Eastern Burma to defend themselves from genocide. If not, modify your mission statement? For more info on the plight of people hiding out in the eastern jungles of Burma, visit the Free Burma Rangers that train back-pack medics to smuggle in supplies past the junta and to the victims of the genocide who are internally displaced.
