1. Have you fallen in love with a non-profit and now want an internship or job?

Many NGO’s need help developing their social media pages. Offer your skills and make an impression while getting to know their staff!

2. Join boards! Youth Engagement is a major focus for many NGO's.

Many non profits would love to have younger voices represented on their boards.

3. Don't let costs hold you back to attend trainings and conferences. These are great places to make connections!

Apply for scholarships or to volunteer at conferences in your field of interest. Get business cards from speakers and trainers and make sure you follow up!

4. Volunteer! Show up at their events! Interact with staff online! Make yourself known.

5. Share your passion. Let the company or organization know why you're there.

At volunteer events, trainings, conferences, don’t hold back! I used to think younger people should listen attentively to "adults," and let them guide the conversation. But that's not true!

Be sure to be mindful of the others person's time. You likely have a fascinating life, and lots of worthy experience, so don't be afraid to talk about your background and aspirations--just as much, if not more than, the person you are getting to know at an event. It will likely make them take a liking to you, be impressed, and help you discover mutual interests.
