Shatner Wars

William Shatner has been feeling feisty lately. He’s posted YouTube videos complaining about a) not being asked to appear in JJ Abrams’ new Star Trek movie and b) not being invited to George Takei’s wedding. (Abrams and Takei said, basically, “you’re crazy.”) Aging celebrities and YouTube: a dangerous mix.

  • William Shatner was made for the role of Denny Crane. His ego or his acting ability comes thru in a bigger then life character. I never miss Boston Legal. greatest show since Star Trek.

  • Takei Takes a Swat at Shatner's YouTube 'Silliness' By Lewis Wallace October 24, 2008 | 4:37:56 PM Star Trek actor George Takei describes as “silliness” William Shatner's recent YouTube clip claiming a snub over a wedding invitation. “It is absolutely baffling to us, because, in fact, we did invite Bill, and we didn't hear from him,” Takei told Entertainment Tonight. Shatner claimed in his homemade video that Takei (pictured) and his longtime partner had failed to invite him to their wedding. Shatner also theorized that Takei is suffering from some kind of “psychosis” (but in a nice way). Takei, who portrayed Sulu in the '60s television series as well as several Trek movies, said Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk, avoided many opportunities to get together with former inhabitants of the Enterprise bridge, even skipping the funeral of series creator Gene Roddenberry. Chalk it up to Shatner's egomania and questionable stability, said Takei. “Bill is the star of the show, and he likes to be the star of the show,” Takei said. “He likes the attention…. It's a big, shining, demanding ego…. It's all typical of Bill. You have to consider the source.”

  • i love william shatner for this inflated parody of himself. i suspect it's all a joke, and he's just a really funny guy. kinda like mark wahlberg pretending to be mad about SNL, but better, of course. he's been doing it for ages. see the special edition star trek movie dvds when he talks about how he taught leonard nimoy everything he knows about directing (with a hilarious deadpan expression, and that theatrical delivery).
