5 Brilliant Post-SNL Moves From Chris Parnell
We don’t always cheer when our favorite actors leave the hallowed halls of Studio 8H. Luckily for Chris Parnell, he’s making 2012 worth our while.
1. Archer
Have you watched “Archer” yet? This raunchy cartoon on FX doesn’t hold back from making any kind of joke. Parnell voices Cyril Figgis, a seemingly harmless comptroller for the slightly sleazy spy group, ISIS.
2. 21 Jump Street
Scoring an 86 percent on movie ranking site Rotten Tomatoes, “21 Jump Street” did much better with the public than I anticipated. Good work, team.
3. 30 Rock
Last week, “30 Rock” once again utilized the talents of its key performers and their friends by broadcasting a live episode. Live TV can be a fickle bitch but not for veterans of SNL. Parnell already has a recurring character on the show - Dr. Spaceman - and getting to see him strut his stuff during the live episodes was a treat.
4. The Five-Year Engagement
Parnell told The Hollywood Reporter he was drawn to this role in the new Judd Apatow flick because it is a “chance to explore some sides of myself that I haven’t before, as a hunter and a knitter.” Besides, would YOU turn down a job from Apatow? I didn’t think so.
5. Suburgatory
Fact: ABC knows what it’s doing when it comes to sitcoms whether you like it or not. So everyone should pay attention to the half hour before “Modern Family” to watch “Suburgatory.” Not sure this show’s for you? Well, it features SNL vet Ana Gasteyer, who plays Parnell’s wife, and “Firefly” hero Alan Tudyk, so I don’t know what more you could want.
