U.S. Marines from the 1st battalion, deployed from Hawaii, joined South Korean marines in Pyeongchang, South Korea earlier this month for a joint winter drill session. The 400 marines trained in temperatures below minus 20 degrees celsius. Tensions have risen in the area after North Korea vowed to conduct more rocket and nuclear tests. The South Korean troops are currently preparing to defend South Korea against any attacks from North Korea.
