Two Seventh-Graders Made A Heartbreaking And Award-Winning Short Film About Eating Disorders

This film is as impressive as it is powerful.

1. You Are Beautiful started as a school project for Olivia Maloney and Cameron Dreyer, two middle schoolers from Denver.

2. The mostly dialogue-free film follows Abbey, a young girl struggling with an eating disorder.

4. It came in first place in the middle school category at the My Hero International Film Festival in November.

6. They told local reporters that this was their first time making a film:

We made this film because we love filmmaking, and we wanted to get the message out about eating disorders,’ [Cameron] Dreyer said. ‘It is a very sad problem in society today that shouldn’t even be an issue.

8. You Are Beautiful also won Best Student Film at the 2013 Colorful Colorado Film Festival.

9. Many have pointed out that while the film might be simplistically done, the fact that it was made by children so young makes it as startling as it is powerful.
