donkeynubb 2 months agoI regularly sell things worth much more, I earn minimum wage and I don’t get tipped at all. Stop whining. You certainly do not deserve a $200+ tip for delivering a few pizzas.

AvenueHebrew 2 months agoThe total came to $1,453.93. That’s more than “a few pizzas.” As the headline states, that’s more like 85 pizzas. Now, imagine having to carry 85 pizzas across town, not dropping or smashing a single one, bringing them up to some office or huge party, and only getting $10 for your trouble. This is not just some two-topping-and-a-2-liter order that the guy is getting stiffed on. Maybe you don’t feel bad for the guy’s plight, fine. But you should at least be able to recognize that a lot of effort was expended to haul this order. If you refuse to have a heart, at least try to grow a brain.

There was a time when tipping was for service. The businesses realized they could pay their employees less and increase their profit margin. The end result is the customer is made the villain. This isn’t tipping, it’s paying wages. The real work is going on in the kitchen. I’ll tip the cooks, dishwashers and manager when I pick up my plate from the counter. They bring you your food. I bet Japan has robots that can do that.

The guy is driving Pizza around. Who cares if the order is $20 or $1500. I highly doubt it did THAT much more work to deliver this one large order. If the customer were to tip the usual 15% or so on this order it would be $225. Do you REALLY think the driver deserved $225 for this one delivery? I didn’t think so.

Maybe they don’t DESERVE that amount of money (in your opinion), but in general servers are required to claim around 12% of their sales in taxes. So, whether or not they “deserve” the money… this driver basically had to pay around $170 to deliver pizza to this person. If you can’t afford to tip, go pick up the fucking pizza yourself.

If you’re unable to muster up even the bare minimum of basic human compassion for the people who prepare and serve you in restaurants, then I suggest you never go out to eat again. If you haven’t already, you would do well to learn to cook for yourself; you can then enjoy your lonely meals in peace, far from the mores of civilized society that so irritate you.

davidad 2 months agoThat you’re not paid enough is not my fault. I’m a good tipper (18-20 is my minimum), my issue has always been that I would pay more for my food, if I didn’t have to tip. IT would be fairly easy for Restaurant Owners to incrementally raise food prices so that you don’t need to ask customers for tips. The customers should not be forced to decide what you should or should not be earning. We’re not the bad guys, (even if some of us a jerks) it’s a system that decides that in this one case you should only be paid 2 bucks and hour that creates the issue.

Bottom line is, though, until someone changes the system, that’s what we have, and people have to either adapt to it or not participate at all by not eating out.

ninag4 2 months agoI’ve worked as a waitress and understand the importance of a tip, but this doesn’t make sense to me. Do the people working back at the store actually making the pizzas get a cut of delivery tips or something? If not, why the hell would the delivery person deserve a $300 tip?! they still only had to drive to the house once, like always. I mean, I’m sure they had to make multiple trips from the car to the house, but since when is that worth $300? Come on. $10 is pretty awful though.

I think the sheer effort of transporting 85 goddamn pizzas might warrant a little more than a measly $10. Maybe not $300, but something a little more commensurate with that degree of labor. Hell, with 85 pizzas, they probably had at least two or three guys to bring them in. So multiple dudes have to split that $10 among themselves?

If you don’t want to have to tip..do it yourself. Cook the dinner yourself, dye your hair yourself, etc. Don’t go to ANY establishment that is in the ‘service’ field and just do it yourself and then see if you’d rather give the tip or do it yourself. These people go through a lot of crap to service people. If you have money to get a pizza or get a 100.00 hairdo..you have money to tip!

Oftentimes, delivery charges do not go to the one driving. You should always check with the establishment (if you ask, they’ll definitely tell you) where the delivery charge is disbursed.

matthewb68 2 months agosomething similar was spread around the internet already of a banker who left $1 tip for a $133 order. It was later turned out to be a photoshopped receipt so i doubt the validity of this one
