The 6 Most Common Brands Of Beer Consumed Before You End Up In The Emergency Room

According to a pilot study from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, if you end up in the ER for drinking, chances are you drank one of these bad boys.

The following beers were found to be the most common alcoholic beverages consumed before patients were admitted to the emergency room. The study was done over the course of a year at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

    6. Bud Light: 4.2% ABV

    5. King Cobra: 6.0% ABV

    4. Bud Ice: 5.0% ABV

    3. Colt 45 Malt Liquor: 6.1% ABV

    2. Steel Reserve Malt Liquor: 8.1% ABV

...And the number one beer most commonly consumed before patients ended up in the emergency room?

    1. Budweiser: 5.0% ABV

Budweiser responded to the results of the study, challenging the scope of the study, saying it was too limited.

This study was limited to only 105 patients at one hospital in one specific neighborhood in Baltimore. The study's director even acknowledged that no conclusions could be made about beer or malt liquor advertising, pricing, or even consumption since the scope of the study was too small.

While we appreciate that the reporter did note that this was a limited study, a deeper dive into the study's methodology should have been done to see if it was credible.

Lead study author David Jernigan acknowledged the limited scope of the study and hopes to increase the sample size in the future.

"Understanding the relationship between alcohol brands and their connection to injury may help guide policy makers in considering taxation and physical availability of different types of alcohol, given the harms associated with them."
