Staten Island Borough President Attacks Bloomberg Over Hurricane Cleanup
The residents of Staten Island have yet to receive Red Cross assistance. “We are the forgotten borough.”
1. Watch Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro call the Red Cross hurricane relief “an absolute disgrace”
You know, I went to a shelter Monday night after the storm. People were coming in with no socks, with no shoes. They were in desperate need. Their housing was destroyed. They were crying. Where was the Red Cross? Isn’t that their function? They collect millions of dollars. Whenever there’s a drive in Staten Island, we give openly and honestly. Where are they? Where are they? I was at the South Shore yesterday, people were buried in their homes. There the dogs are trying to find bodies. The people there, the neighbors who had no electricity, were making soup. Making soup. It’s very emotional because the lack of a response. The lack of a response. They’re supposed to be here….They should be on the front lines fighting, and helping the people.
3. Borough President Jim Molinaro issued a statement Wednesday, also, about Mayor Bloomberg’s concern over the NYC Marathon
My God. What we have here is terrible, a disaster. If they want to race, let them race with themselves. This is no time for a parade. A marathon is a parade. Now is the time to put your shoulder to the wheel. If they want to prepare for something, let them prepare for the election, not a marathon.

childeharold 6 months agoFirst off, everyone (no matter who they are) needs help. That said, I relish the incredible irony of the residents of Staten Island. I know some people have thought it, but are unwilling to say it. This is the only red (Republican) borough in the city. They consistently vote for climate change deniers; small government fiends; and FEMA cutters. Now, they need the horrible local and federal government to help them out. Imagine that?! Right now, Republican legislators are putting caveats on releasing funds for emergency aid, but these Republican voters need the government’s help? Listen, I hope they get all the help they need, but I am jarred by the hypocrisy of people who think its okay to cut the government on the backs of others, but expand it when they need help. I know everyone will disagree with me, but there it is.
