Silvio Berlusconi Sentenced To 7 Years In Prison After Sex-For-Hire Conviction

Berlusconi has been convicted of abuse of office and for paying for sex with an allegedly underage prostitute.

According to the Associated Press, Silvio Berlusconi was sentenced to seven years in prison and given lifetime ban from office.

Court convened in Milan Monday morning and found the former prime minister guilty of the two charges facing him. The allegations centered around Berlusconi's relationship with Karima El Mahroug, a former nightclub dancer from Morocco (pictured above).

Berlusconi was accused of paying El Mahroug for sex in 2010, when she was 17-years-old. El Mahroug testified that Berlusconi gave her 7,000 euros, but as a gift.

Berlusconi denied all charges and has claimed that the trail was part of a persecution by leftist prosecutors.

Berlusconi has two more levels of appeal, however, before the sentencing is final.

Berlusconi was given a four-year sentence for tax fraud in October of 2012.
