According To Pornhub, The South Watches More Gay Porn Than Any Other Part Of The U.S.

Turns out Mississippi really, really likes gay porn.

BuzzFeed recently spoke with Pornhub's very informative Insights blog about where the largest amounts of gay pornography were being watched, broken down by states with and without same-sex marriage.

To clarify, according to a spokesperson for the team, here's how Pornhub's insights team pulled their data:

We pulled terms and traffic to gay searches. We couldn't break down "lesbian" because we don't track our users on a micro-granular level (i.e., gender, sexual orientation, etc.). So for example, lesbian searches can account for, like, 40% of a city's searches, but 80% of those searchers may likely be men.

So to answer, it's a rundown of gay porn from male users.

Pornhub discovered that every single state in the South watches porn at a higher percentage than the average of states where gay marriage is legal.

For states that have legalized gay marriage, the top three consumers of gay porn are Hawaii, New York, and California.

And on the flip side, where same-sex marriage is not legal, the top three are Mississippi, Louisiana at a close second, and then Georgia.

America: a strange land full of contradictions.
