12 Wildly Offensive Arabic Cartoons About Obama, Romney, And Israel
The Anti-Defamation League has compiled newspaper cartoons depicting what they describe as “the Arab media’s demonization of the 2012 presidential election and the US-Israeli relationship.”
Oct. 10 cartoon from an Oman paper. The cartoon’s headline: “American Presidential Debates.”
Aug. 1 cartoon from The Alghad, an Arabic daily national newspaper in Jordan. The cartoon’s headline: “‘Romeo’ of the US Elections!”
Aug. 3 cartoon from Tishrin, a Syria paper. The arms in the picture are labeled Obama and Romney.
Sept. 25 cartoon from Al-IttihadAl-Ittihad of the United Arab Emirates. The cartoon’s headline: “Romney.”

Benjamin Sapiens 6 months agoWhat we should really take away from this is that political cartoons are frequently lazy, vastly oversimplify the issues, and are misrepresent the situation in ways that are terribly offensive and unfair to those involved. And then there are cartoons like #11, which are fairly clever and insightful (and aren’t offensive in the least).

Only a couple of these are actually offensive, as pretty much everyone has already pointed out. But I find it sickeningly ironic to see the man who’s so often accused of being an Arab Muslim - at least a Islamist sympathizer - and of hating America and Israel being accused by actual Arab Muslims of being Israel’s lapdog.

t0ph3r 6 months agoI wouldn’t call any of these “wildly offensive [political] cartoons”. Political cartoons by their nature are not soft and fuzzy. Caricatures can be insensitive and 1 and 7 seem to fit that bill. But even that doesn’t negate that there is an important point here that more Americans should think about. I find #11 especially thought provoking. Why is there so much money and effort put into pleasing this interest group above so many others, even when international laws are flaunted and sometimes broken? It’s time for people to have an open debate about these questions without self-censorship or unjust bullying. I thought about not commenting and giving further fuel to trolls, but I’m an educated person with a reasoned opinion and a right to it, dammit. [Drops the mic.]

No American presidential candidate in recent memory has strayed from an unwavering support of zionist Israel and their unflinchingly ethnocentrist policies and militaristic agitations which destabilize the middle eastern political sphere - what exactly is offensive or untruthful about these cartoons?
