Yesterday, Amy Poehler's Smart Girls began tweeting #LikeAGirl in an attempt to dispel gender stereotypes and break the negative stigma attached to the phrase "like a girl".

Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls is an online community that encourages young girls to speak out confidently about their achievements.
Its Facebook page regularly shares stories about inspiring women and girls in the news and throughout history.

The conversation was in part spurred by the recent successes of the "Like a Girl" Super Bowl commercial (which originally coined the #LikeAGirl hashtag) and Sport England's "This Girl Can" campaign.

Despite its popularity, the attempt to change the negative stigma associated with the phrase "like a girl" did spark a backlash.

Last month, some men (a group who call themselves "meninists") who felt their voices were not being heard encouraged others to get #LikeABoy trending on Twitter.
