This Cafe Had The Perfect Response When A Man Complained About A Breastfeeding Mum

Don't mess with the Cheese and Biscuits cafe.

When a man at the Cheese and Biscuits Cafe in Rockhampton, Queensland complained to a breastfeeding mum that she needed to cover up, the cafe's owners knew exactly what to do. They asked him to leave.

The "middle-aged gentleman" reportedly first took his complaint to cafe workers when he saw the mother breastfeeding in an outdoor area of the cafe earlier this week.

When staff told the man that the cafe was breastfeeding-friendly, he apparently took matters into his own hands and confronted the mother.

"When I put his coffee down, he mentioned that he said something to her and that the next time I should probably ask her to cover up," Cafe owner Jessica-Anne Allen told Fairfax.

Ms Allen says she was only doing the right thing when she subsequently asked the man to leave.

"So I informed him I would rather ask him to leave, and I took his coffee and put it in a take away container and asked him to leave," she said.

The cafe then put this update on Facebook, declaring "We do not in anyway believe that to breast feed a baby is anything to be ashamed of."

The cafe has now been inundated with praise.

For the record, it's totally fine to breastfeed in public under Australian law.

Under the federal Sex Discrimination Act 1984 it is illegal in Australia to discriminate against a person either directly or indirectly on the grounds of breastfeeding, according to The Australian Breastfeeding Association.
