Shaw's Shin, Broadway Brad, And Miller Time

A look back at last nights slate of games in the NHL.

    Rangers-Red Wings

Rangers fans (myself included) are breathing a sigh of relief after the blueshirts won a hard fought match against the Detriot Red Wings. The Red Wings opened up the scoring in the first period with Henrik Zetterberg getting the best of Henrik Lundqvist. Lundqvist tweeted this after the game, "First W against Detroit, about time! Big goal by Captain Cally on his Bday:) Zetterberg told me last night he would score 5hole...Bastard!" It's good to see two men named Henrik talk to each other about things other than being named Henrik. New York got even with this beauty by Brad Richards.

Richards has been playing decent hockey all season, but these are the things the Rangers organization and it's fans want to see from their new 60 million dollar man. I have to cut him some slack because it can't be easy to have the playoff odds on your new team go from 6-8 seed to cup contender before the ink is dry on your contract. He's come into a tight knit group of young core players, was given the A, and expected to have 50 assists on Gaborik's 50 goals. didn't start that way, but now things are clicking for him, and boy am I glad to have Broadway Brad (cup winner and MVP in Tampa Bay) on our team. The Wings played a hell of a game, especially a one Pavel Datsyuk, and really earned that point. Datsuyk is in his 88th Year in the league (okay only his 9th) and still doing everything that you want your forward. Still the best fore and back-checker, one of the toughest to get off the puck, and that god given knack for being in the right place at the right time. the game went to overtime with both sides deadlocked at 1 but the Wings were charging hard at the end, forcing hank to make a few of his customary, "how the hell did he do that?" saves.

this beauty was in the first period against Filppula but it just shows what it takes to beat the king. The game winner was fired past Red Winger netminder Ty Conklin by none other than Captain Cally, Ryan Callahan. 27th goal on his 27th Birthday and what a better present then two points to keep 1st place in the east?

    Sabres-Canadiens

The Buffalo Sabres are continuing to push for that 8 seed behind Ryan Miller and his return to Venezia form. Miller earned his 6th shutout of the season, Cody Hodgson put two past Carey Price and Jason Pomminville added his 28th of the season to put the Sabres even with the Capitals for 8th. This is exactly the kind of team you don't want to meet in the playoffs, the Sabres have been underachieving all season, and the fact that Miller and that offense are starting to click and play as a unit is scary. Hockey rule #1- The Hottest team wins the best of 7, and the Sabres look like a team determined to get into the playoffs. These guys want a chance at the cup more than women everywhere want to fuck "The Hunger Games" books/movie. I could sit here and list all the teams that got hot at the right time and won big, but the list is too long. So i'll put one, Boston Bruins 2011. What happened? Stanley Cup champs is what happened. Watch out for these Sabres in a big way.

    Blackhawks-Canucks

When you're a rookie, every goal helps cement your standing on the depth chart-even ones that simply deflect off your shin. Rookie Andrew Shaw got the coveted right place right time goal by simply crashing the net and having the shot deflect off his shin and in for the overtime winner. The Hawks are very happy to have the points becuase they're sitting in sixth but even with Nashville who sit fifth, and one point out from fourth and home ice for round one.

    Tonights slate of games

The Flyers host the Capitals and the Penguins host the Predators as they try and keep pace with the Rangers and keep first place in their respective grasps. The Predators could have Alexander Radulov back in the lineup after his ridiculous KHL poaching and the Radulov rule that followed.

Everybodies least favorite divison has all parties in action tonight. after this season Tom Hanks will petition the NHL to change the name of the Pacific Divsion to the "Joe Vs the Volcano" Division.

Avalanche-Coyotes: No Shane Doan, Av's win

    Bruins-Sharks: B's all day

Canuks-Stars: Too much Sedin twins, Vancouver takes it

Blues-Kings: Blues already have a playoff spot locked up, so they might rest on their laurels a bit, but if the Kings don't score early, mark it a win for the blues.

So there you have it, Yesterday's hockey broken down for you. See you tomorrow when we discussed why the Flyers lost to the Caps (sorry, i got ahead of myself)
