So the interview is simply “You’re a Muslim, what gives you the right to call yourself a scholar?” As a priest, as a historian, as a theologian, I can say that this woman either does not understand what scholarship is, and does not understand that a book on “Jesus of Nazareth” (a historical figure) is not the same as a book on “Jesus the Christ” (a religious figure).  It is a shame that he needs to defend his right to historical criticism because he is a Muslim, and she clearly wants the book to be encased in a wrapping saying “Muslim.” Does she require every Christian “scholar” to do the same? So-called Christians need to spend less time debating who they think Jesus is and more time doing what Jesus said. If they were doing what they were supposed to, they wouldn’t have time to attack Muslims and persecute others.

Reading the many comments demonstrates better than anything else why NOTHING will ever be done to fix the problem.Asolution requiresarational discussion, and that is why every effort to fix the problem will fail—because it is impossible to havearational discussion. Everybody, for and against guns or regulation or whatever, immediately loses their effing minds somewhere in the first sentence uttered. Until we can check our emotions and look at what is rational and what is for the common good, it’s just more of the same, which seems to be name calling, division, and so on.
