In fact, other than re-electing incumbents,Ichalleng the author to give historical examples of where the electorate choosesanew president similar to the previous one. Nixon after Johnson? Carter after Ford? Reagan after Carter? Clinton defeating Bush Sr. in 1992? Bush Jr after Clinton? Obama after Bush Jr.? If anythingIthink the tendency is to go for someone different, not similar.
