Matt Heisler, a student at the University of North Dakota, died following a house fire in March.
According to KARE, Meeks was told in April 2011 he would die without a heart transplant after being diagnosed with a rare condition called amyloidosis.
Eight months after Matt's death, the student's parents and sister Casey went to meet the man carrying his heart.
Meeks told the news station: "I woke up this morning and told Matt that ‘mum and dad is coming today’."
