To the people complaining about drinking: My 70-year-old neighbors can and do drink my parents (late 40s) and me (23) under the table, even though we’re hearty drinkers ourselves. My aunt and uncle are in their fifties and combine a love for fancy wines with an affection for hard liquor. Our family is just hitting our drinking stride now that all the young people are at least 21 while the older generations keep going strong. Old age just means increased tolerance and the ability to afford higher-quality alcohol. Enjoying the taste and enjoying the buzz are compatible. Yet shockingly, all of this can be true and we still drink responsibly, using time-tested methods like a designated driver and knowing your limits! It’s not a college party because no one pukes on the floor or strips buck naked, but we imbibe substantially all the same. It’s cool if you don’t drink or drink very little, but realize that your experience is not everyone’s, and there is a range of appropriate options between getting alcohol poisoning and never touching a drop.
