Consequences of Gay Marriage
A helpful pie chart demonstrating the pros and cons of letting other people get married. I am very glad to have Prop 8's effect on Russia cleared up.

Lol, could not be more wrong. People that support gay marriage are either A) Delusional or B) idiots. I am not morally opposed to homosexuality, quite the opposite actually. But whether they'd like you to believe it or not, they represent a tiny minority and to give them rights simply opens the door for other small groups to voice their anger over being oppressed as well. I don't see how homosexuals who want gay marriage or heterosexuals who what gay marriage can consciously draw a moral line between what is is allowed and what is not. Who gets the almighty right to decide that homosexuals should be allowed to marry and not interspecies couples, or couples that break age of consent laws. Which brings up another point. If it's alright for two people of the same gender to be in a relationship, then why not for a 40 yo man and a 15 yo girl (or boy). Any and all defense against other forms of taboo relationships are futile in my opinion, because they shed light on the fact that people are taking it upon themselves to define what should and shouldn't be moral reprehensible, and quite honestly that's when you get into very slippery grounds.

Um, notalwaysreligion - marriage isn't just about procreation these days. Even in Biblical times it wasn't if you've actually read the bible. The fact is; people should be allowed to do what they want. Marriage was around before Christianity. You do not own it. Marriage between two individuals is none of your damn business. I have no vote over YOUR marriage. You have no vote or right over mine just because of your PERSONAL belief.

“Firstly, a gay couple could adopt a child, but it is relatively rare that a currently married couple gives up a child for adoption, so by my assumptions above, the child has a higher likelihood of being either unnatural or unhealthy from the start.” Do you know how many kids are in foster homes or up for adoption? They aren't all messed up. A lot of the times the parents couldn't take care of them. Rape victims, teen pregnancies, abusive families, etc. That was a really insulting and ignorant comment.

stop dissecting a cartoon! laugh and move on!!!

The original reason for marriage was to convey property from one generation to another. But who really cares what the original reason was…gay marriage won't hurt anyone or anything. Let 'em marry.

To NotAlwaysReligion: First of all not every heterosexual married couple can or wants to have children. Also many heterosexual couples just don't ever marry and stay together for years without marriage, so your point that being married is for the sole purpose of having children is flawed.
If you think children given up for adoption are really more likely to be “a higher likelihood of being either unnatural or unhealthy from the start.” that is a ugly assumption and being part of the New York State Adoption Service for over 25 years I can tell you that that is just not true. What you are thinking of is the foster care system that can messes a child up, the children that come through here aren't born “unhealthy”. Also as I said earlier a lot of heterosexual couple adopt for a plethora of reasons so please get your fact straight before you spout nonsense.
No your ideas of why homosexual marriage is just as bad a religious reasons, they may be different, but they are just as bigoted. I just had to add this, while you may be right about no animal in the mammalian class can procreate by same sex, I would offer this link in retort to the fact that homosexuality is still very prominent in the animal kingdom http://www.news-medical.net/?id=20718 The last thing I have to add is, if you really think the difference in multiple lovers from a married couple and a non married couple is that different, I have know idea what era you are living in because married men have a relatively high percentage of cheating on their spouses. -
In response to A noone 's comment, ''What the Hell does gay marriage have to do with world issues? It has NOTHING to do with it! This is (once again) the gay community trying to get another 15-minutes of “oh poor pitiful me”. Give me a break!'' … I think you are clearly misunderstanding the idea behind the picture . Its obviously meant to be a joke. This is clearly not about the gay community getting pity at all. Infact its the total opposite. If you used your head for a moment i don't think any gay person actually thinks that their sexual preference will have an effect on politics and weather etc. The only people that propose this are the people that are against it. So basically your comment saying that its a plea for pity is just totally ridiculous. This pie chart was a sarcastic joke, basically implying that gay marriage will not cause any of the other listed factors [russia invading etc]. Its a pretty playful take on anti-gay idealisms. Get it right before you start ripping into it. You then carried on to complain about illegal aliens and how they want hand outs and stuff, and that you are sick of people complaining about their problems. Again i'd like to poitupid whatnt out how s you just said was. You are basically trying to casually compare two polar opposite situations. The situation with food and money and economy etc are rfactors that are governed by our access to resources etc. They are of a physical nature so to speak. But…allowing gay marriage, has no effect on any resources, the only change that needs to be made is peoples opinion of it. Its not like we are short crops or we don't have a strong enough economy to just accpet it. Its just simply a decision that we can make within our own heads. You won't have to hand out anything. So trying to compare an illegal aliens situation to that of a homosexual is just so so stupid and void of intelligence.

Like it or not, the institution of marriage has been established and maintained by nearly all religions in the world. And like it or not, homosexuality happens to deeply offend most (but thank God not all) religions in the world. Given this situation, why would homosexual couples want to expose each other to such hostility? Why would two people who are committed in love want to purposefully cast themselves into a pit of vipers? It seems to me that there must be gentler ways to make a point.
Religious people aren't stupid. I think they realize their glaring hypocrisy. But it's just too difficult and frightening dismantling ones heart, sorting out the truth and reassembling it. Significant changes need to happen by evolution rather than revolution. I think it was Jesus who said that we should treat others like we would want to be treated. As bitter as it might feel, accept those who would reject you; and you will teach the most valuable lesson in life. Religious people will especially recognize this lesson. -
Let's take a moment to look closely at the flaws in this argument against gay marriage. The first one is the belief that the purpose of marriage is to produce offspring. The problem with this argument is that some marriages produce offspring, and some don't. Also, offspring is produced as easily outside of the institution of marriage as it is produced inside it. If marriage were abolished tomorrow, the human race would continue, and every child born would be born out of wedlock. If the definition of marriage was the union of a man and a woman who then must produce offspring, any marriage between infertile people would be invalid. The next logical step would then be, marriage is to promote the rearing of children. Well and good, but are you going to take away all of the children who were born out of wedlock? Single parent no more, you must either, get married or forfeit your child. What is it about this, “marriage regulates people's sexual behavior and thus gays can't get married.” That's not even a valid reason. You'd think that, if you didn't want gay people to have the sex you don't like so much but can't really prevent, (and keep them from spreading STDs around), you'd at least want to get some more control over it. How do heterosexuals keep their sexual partners from sleeping all over the place and getting STDs? They get married. I'm not really going to delve into the whole “homosexuality is immoral argument.” While related, no one on this forum has really presented an argument worth refuting.

““down with those gay faggots” like the Christians.” Seriously, I have never heard any language like that in any church/religious gathering I have attended. Regardless, has the “gay community” ever thought that there is a different intention to the institution of marriage (and yes it is an institution because you have to be crazy to actually want to be married, and being married myself, I sometimes question my sanity). Perhaps the purpose of marriage is to promote the natural and healthy continuation of the human race, by means of procreation. Outside of marriage, individuals are more likely to have multiple sexual partners, and with exposure to more partners, there is a higher likelihood of contracting a sexually-transmitted disease, which can be passed onto the offspring, resulting in a non-healthy offspring. As far as being natural, the only natural way to procreate is through sexual interactions between a natural born man, and a natural born woman. Being gay is in fact biologically un-natural in the fact that a gay couple cannot naturally create an offspring themselves; to my knowledge, there is nowhere in the mammalian class of animals where procreation is possible between two of the same gender. While there are possibilities exist where a homosexual couple can obtain a child, none of these actually promote the idea of natural and healthy procreation. Firstly, a gay couple could adopt a child, but it is relatively rare that a currently married couple gives up a child for adoption, so by my assumptions above, the child has a higher likelihood of being either unnatural or unhealthy from the start. Secondly, a gay couple could obtain a child by means of artificial insemination (or other scientific means), which is by definition unnatural. Lastly, a gay (lesbian) couple could conceive a child by a natural means, but this increases the number of sexual partners again (she has to have sex with someone other than her partner), which raises the possibility of an unhealthy offspring. Now, with that in mind, I am not trying to say that I am opposed to individuals being gay, lesbian, or bi-sexual, because what you do behind closed doors is of no concern of mine, unless it affects the health or safety of another individual. What I am saying is that there are other possible reasons why government or religion would not want homosexual marriage to be legal, and my personal reasons for why gay marriage should not be allowed are based more in the science of life rather than religion. One final thought that I would like to offer is that many people equate gay marriage to marrying an animal of some sort, stating, “What’s next, is marrying your dog going to be legal?” Which is absurd, because that would be inter-species marriage as opposed to same gender (same species) marriage. A more fitting example would be marrying a sibling, because that situation also does not promote a healthy and natural procreation.

A Noone (I think you mean “No One”), that is the joke… It has nothing to do with world issues, so why is it such a big deal? Legalize it and you're done. That's all it takes. jjshays, marriage puts you in a different tax bracket that a lot of gay people can't get into. This is discrimination. Period.
Second, evangelical christians = LEAST likely to defend themselves? I'm pretty sure they put this on themselves by hating gays in the first place. I mean, have you really ever seen a real live evangelical christian? Also, I don't know what this race thing is about. Black people aren't some sect, they are individuals with their own free will and thoughts, they don't gather every Sunday and say, “down with those gay faggots” like the christians. The irony and ignorance in your statement is startling… There are no winners or “losers,” only those who have rights as defined by the government, and those who don't. America, I just don't know anymore…. -
The sexual revolution of the 70's gave us the, “marriage is just paperwork” argument. Two people, committed and consenting, shouldn't have to ask the government to “validate” their union with such a meaningless institutional designation. At least that was the line.
So why now does the Gay agenda include such an emphasis, such a yearning and lust for the the very document that the fore-bearers of the sexual revolution despised and decried? Health Insurance and adoption. Period. Spare me the innocence of the gay agenda's motives for idealistic marriage claims. Also note their tolerance for people's voices as expressed through the Prop 8 election.
They vandalize Mormon Temples, and issue death threats to Evangelicals. The majority of our Californian African American brothers and sisters stamped down on the gay marriage prop with a steel-toed boot. Didn't see any anti-black spray painting or death threats. The irony is rich. The persecuted gay marriage proponants strike out at those least likely to defend themselves, and leave the civil-liberty, civil rights laiden blacks untouched.
Hypocrits and bullys. Sore losers. -
i thought the post was funny, it was supposed to be…wasn't it?
why is everyone fighting over an ironic post…? i simply don't understand why we can't all just get along -
So if gays can't marry because of religious reasons, does that mean it is going to banned soon for atheists? Which is worse in the eyes of the church—sinners who marry or non-believers that marry?
-
Um…people, this is a joke. It's supposed to be a sarcastic illustration of how ridiculous the arguments against gay marriage are. Shall we get out the dictionary and look up the word sarcasm?
-
We are supposed to be free here, free to marry anybody you want to.Marriage is about love, not just legalities.Anybody should have the right to marry anybody else.
and by the way, I am straight and married for the last 23 years. Why shouldnt everyone be entitiled to the same?gay or straight, wwhatever you chose, love is what counts. -
What the Hell does gay marriage have to do with world issues? It has NOTHING to do with it! This is (once again) the gay community trying to get another 15-minutes of “oh poor pitiful me”. Give me a break! Stand there with the blacks of today who still believe they are being held back with slavery. Stand there with the illegal aliens who think we should be giving free handouts because they deserve it - oh, and in THEIR language. I'm so tired of everyone crying over their personal problems. How about those of our own country who don't have enough to eat, or are losing their homes because of the economy, or losing their jobs also because of the economy. Find a fight that matters and then others might agree. Oh, and to those who claim God made them gay and then made it a sin - you're wrong. It is called free will. You already know that game of free will because you do it daily. Why do you care what others think? You really don't so shut the heck up already!

You know what? If you don't want gay marriage, DON'T HAVE ONE!!! Or how about this: Fine. Don't legalize gay marriage. Ban straight divorce so everyone has to suffer….
