Temples

Angor Wat is one of the most majestic temples you will ever see! Entire complex is huge with several temples on the side. You will get to explore temples in the proper Indiana Jones style, learn about wonderful legends, sandstone carving and light incense in front of Buddha statues. You could easily spend few days going around the temples, discovering intricate carvings and legends. Except of Angor Wat, there is plenty of other smaller temples to go to, and if you have time, you should definitely explore those!

Food is gorgeous! From street-side snacks, fresh fruit on every step , different kinds of curry, soups, and my absolutely favorite spring rolls. Food is not spicy as in Thailand, and I found myself quite often asking for extra spicy versions of favorite grub. Everything is fresh, with piles of herbs! Food markets are fresh, buzzing and full of flavor – not to be missed! As an added bonus, you can get really good eggs & bacon in Cambodia as well!

Locals

People are awesome! Most of the locals speak some English and will be happy to talk to you about their lives, things to do and anything at all! I’ve met cool hostess at restaurants I ended up hugging before I left. People working in different tour agencies or taking you on tours will happily have a chat about more than the tour and in general, everyone is extremely friendly. Added bonus – you can walk around and snap photos of taking naps in the oddest places!

Happy Herb Pizza

The thing to do in Pnom Penh is to find happy pizza place (one is right across the street from Foreign Correspondents Club) and get your pizza extra happy. Finish up with some local beer for the night you will (not) remember!

Bugs

If you feel like being adventurous, you can get pretty much anything in the form of stick – snakes, moths, spiders, scorpions and the rest of the creepy crawly kingdom. There is often a stall in every marker that sells these by cupful as well, often with some chilly and spring onion on a side. I had tarantulas in Pnom Penh, and will never look on those Survivor series in the same way. Crunchy!

Anything you want, you can get on a market! Fresh food, smoked fish, sweets, coffee, hammocks, souvenirs, Ronadinho t-shirts, opium pipes and silverware. You can bargain your price down on everything, so never accept the first price they give you!

Relax after long day with 1$ foot massage. Even better, grab one of the cocktails and relax completely!

Night-Life

One of the best nights of my life happened on the Pub Street of Siem Reap – 50 cent beers, whole day happy hour, 2 for 1 cocktails, dancing around coconuts to blaring music out on the street at 5am and bunch of Irish people I randomly ran into… Certainly a place to be if you like your night-life!

Cheap beer

I did mention that night life is awesome, but the fact you get beer for 50 cents is beyond me and will continue to amaze me for days to come. Loads of pubs do happy hour Open till Close and there is absolutely no reason, ever, to pay more than that for a beer!

History

It is amazing to hear about all hardships that hit Camere people not that long ago. You should visit landmine museum and find out about how entire families were wiped out from the face of Earth in brutal killings. Stories you will hear are going to be very difficult to digest, but knowing more about them will make you appreciate Camere people even more.

Not yet hot spot

Really cool thing about Cambodia is that it has not yet been discovered like a hotspot – so even though number of tourists is on the increase, numbers are still low enough to make you feel like you are discovering something completely new and different. Go there before it becomes new Thailand!
