this has been going on since the beginning of time. Any bank repo is not going to be treated nicely in its final days. There's also the fact that people who mistreat their property, value it less, and are therefore slightly more likely to end up in foreclosure.

This is absolutely a trend. My sister is looking at foreclosed houses to buy in Massachusetts and several she's looked at have been trashed like this.
