The Abandoned Shoes Of New York City

Amid all its wonderful trash, New York is home to some particularly endearing examples of the abandoned shoe – which often looks like someone has just recently walked right out of it. We scouted them out – and this is what we found:

Abandoned shoes often take solace with other abandoned objects, such as NYC's disappearing telephone booths.

Others hide in plain sight, daring passerby not to notice them...

Others are intrepid explorers, showing off their all-weather abilities.

They huddle together with their partners, banding together against the other abandoned and possibly vicious streetwear.

Others are totally unscrupulous, joining with other types of shoes in orgiastic unions.

They are self-debasing and shameful.

Does this even count as a shoe? With that ankle-to-length ratio?

Some of them seem to be in some sort of suicide pact. Suits them.

But don't you feel sorry for them? It's difficult for a little shoe with big ambitions to get by in this world.
